Troutbound to Rock Springs
Trade the interstate rush for mountain rivers, rising trout, and eight nights of fishing our way to the 70th Airstream Club International Rally! We’ll caravan through some of Montana and Wyoming’s legendary trout country, spending two nights each near Rock Creek and the Clark Fork, the Beaverhead River in Dillon, the Salt River in Alpine, and the Green River outside Pinedale. Along the way, there’ll be time to wet a line, visit local fly shops, swap stories over a cold beer, and enjoy some spectacular Western scenery before the silver procession rolls into Rock Springs. Bring your Airstream, your fly rod, and your best fish story—whether it’s true or not.

Ekstrom's Stage Station Campground is a scenic, historic RV park and campground located at 81 Rock Creek Road, Clinton, Montana, situated in a large grassy meadow surrounded by tall pine trees. The property features a unique collection of historic log buildings reassembled in the 1970s and sits just off I-90 along the banks of Montana’s world-renowned trout stream, Rock Creek, roughly 20 miles (a 20-minute drive) east of Missoula.

I would treat it primarily as a walk-and-wade fly-fishing river.
For a typical summer day, I'd start with a dry/dropper. Something like a Chubby Chernobyl, Stimulator or hopper on top with a small Perdigon, Prince, Hare's Ear or similar nymph underneath gives you a very effective searching rig. If you're seeing rising fish or an obvious hatch, drop the nymph and fish the dry alone.

The Beaverhead River near Dillon, Montana, is celebrated as one of the premier "Blue Ribbon" tailwater trout fisheries. Flowing out of the Clark Canyon Reservoir, this narrow, meandering river is a highly productive "fish factory" famous for its high density of large wild brown trout and hard-fighting rainbow trout.
Summer (June – July) Pale Morning Duns (PMDs), Yellow Sallies, Tricos, Caddis PMD dry flies, Yellow Sally stoneflies, nymphing San Juan worms, and freshwater shrimp.
